Year 2 2019 - 2020

Welcome to Year 2! I've changed things around a little but, as you can see, I'm still adding pictures of your activities and our thanks to the NHS is staying right at the top of the page!

22.05.20

Hi Year 2,

Welcome to the last day before our half term holiday. I'll not be putting and new work online during the holiday but I will keep checking my emails from you. Thank you for continuing to send me your lovely work. As you can see, there are some more setting descriptions and I've some pictures to our gallery or activities too.

I'm very impressed by these two representations of dandelion seeds. I look forward to seeing more of them, and perhaps your 'helicopters' too. You could also send me pictures of any seeds that you see on your walks. I hope that I'll soon be able to put them into a gallery.

Have a great half term and keep safe.

Hi again Year 2,

I hope that you are all well and enjoying this lovely weather? As  you can see from our galleries, there are some great activities happening. I'm really impressed by the gardening and baking skills that my class have! I've been able to add to the Antarctica slide show too. Well done Year 2!

I'm uploading some Literacy, Science and RE work today.

Literacy

This week, I'd like you to try some descriptive writing (and a picture too). Please use this presentation to help you. (It's in PDF format so you should be able to access it.) The presentation will explain when you need to watch the video. It's all about using your imagination - so have fun! Handwriting and spelling are important but it's even more important that you enjoy your writing.

RE

If we had been in school then we would have been learning about Pentecost, the birthday of the church.

So that you can find out more about this, I've found a PowerPoint and sequencing activity for you. Remember to cut up the sequencing activity and then ask an adult to mix it up before you try to put it back in the right order. I hope that you enjoy it.

Science

Finally for today, here is the Science. As you know, plants make seeds. These seeds then need to travel away from their parent plant so that they can grow into a plant somewhere else. This is called seed dispersal. This work asks you how you think about how different plants disperse (send out) their seeds. The answers are at the bottom of each page. There are also two practical activities. The first one only needs paper and scissors so you should be able to do it. The second one needs a few more things - don't worry if you don't have them, it's okay to use different materials and your own ideas.

Hello Year 2 and welcome to a new week.

I hope that you are all well and finding fun things to do. Thank you for your emails, I've added to our sunflower slideshow!

This week's maths is a review of multiplication. I remember how good you all were at it, especially using arrays so you should be able to work on these independently. Click on this picture to access this week's teaching videos. The worksheets and answers are underneath.

I'll be adding the Literacy work tomorrow (as well as some RE and Science).

13.05.20: Hello again Year 2,

I hope that you've seen the new work that has been added to our galleries?

This term's Science was going to be all about plants and how to care for them and we were going to grow sunflowers. I know that some of you have already been gardening and growing things so it would be great to see some more pictures please? I'll be adding some activities here all about plants. The first one is a colouring, cutting and sticking activity about the life cycle of a flowering plant. I hope that you enjoy it. If you send me your completed work then I'll add it to this page. I hope that you are all well and managing to enjoy some safe time in the sun.

12.05.20: Hello Year 2, as promised, here is the literacy based work for this week.

Continuing with our theme of Stewardship, our new book is about Antarctica, one of the last places on Earth which hasn’t been spoilt by human beings. Please read the book (and talk about it) with an adult. You can then click here to access lots more information about the topics in the book. Please spend some time using the websites, watching the videos and having fun using the interactive activities. (I really enjoyed dressing an Antarctic scientist.) When you have seen all of the websites then you should choose the part that you are most interested in and create a poster or PowerPoint about it. You can then email them to me and I will put them onto our website so that the can be shared with everyone. Please could you send either a photograph of your work or a PowerPoint so that I can share it on your class page?

I hope that you enjoy this work as much as I've enjoyed it! I!)'ll be adding some ideas for science tomorrow (have your glue and scissors ready).

Welcome to a new week Year 2,

As you can see, I've added even more of your lovely work to this page - please keep it coming. Thank you too for the Maths and English work that you've sent. It is really great to see.

As you may have seen, White Rose have limited their worksheets to subscription only. The school does have a subscription so I will upload the worksheets here each week. You can still access the link as usual (for the videos) but will need to download the worksheets from here. This week covers addition and subtraction using tens and ones and includes number bonds to 100. (I've included the answers too.) The link is just below here in 07.05.20.

I will be uploading some more English work tomorrow.

Hello again Year 2,

As you've probably noticed, I've moved things around a little on this page so that newer information is easier to find. You'll also notice that I've added a fantastic poster that I've been sent which is linked to our new book. Here is a quick reminder of activities that you can do this week (including a new one).

  1. For maths, we are using White Rose This week's learning is about number bonds. (Click on White Rose to access)
  2.  For literacy, we have a new book and reading comprehension, Down the Drain. There are other ideas at the end of the PowerPoint for you to use.
  3.  One of the ideas at the end of the PowerPoint is to create a poster telling people how to look after the environment. The first one is already on this page and might give you some ideas. You could also get some ideas from the book. Remember that our theme for this term is Stewardship - looking after God's world. I look forward to receiving your work.

To make things easier to find, here are the links again for the Down the Drain PowerPoint and reading comprehension.

Hello Year 2,

Welcome to another week. This week I'd like to you carry on using the White Rose Maths. This week is all about number bonds so it will be good revision for you.

For Literacy, we are thinking about this Term's Building the Kingdom theme which is Stewardship. I've added a new book which will help us to think about how we look after our environment. There are questions on the presentation which you will be able to answer using the booklet. There are also some activity ideas at the end of the booklet.

Last of all, thank you so much for sending me the lovely activities that you have been doing. As you can see, I've added them to our slideshows! I hope that you enjoy looking at them.

Hello again Year 2, sorry for the delay, my WiFi has been taking itself out of action for most of this week! I hope that you are all well and finding time to have some fun. I've managed to reply to your emails and I'm quite excited to be able to start our fractions slideshow. It's not too late to send your creative fractions pictures to join them (or to send anything that you have for any of our other galleries either). Have a good weekend and keep safe.

Hi Year 2,

It's another sunny day and I hope that you are all getting the chance to enjoy it? Thank you for the emails that you keep sending me, I really enjoy seeing the lovely activities that you have been doing.

Fractions activity!

As promised, here is a new project idea. This one aims to be fun! As you know, we will soon have spent 3 weeks working on fractions finding halves, quarters and thirds. It would be lovely if you could think of a way to show your understanding. It could be a pizza cut into quarters, a cake cut into thirds or just some pieces of toast cut up into different fractions! You could add to your picture with some labels showing the fractions. I know that you will have much better ideas than I have!

I look forward to seeing your ideas and will put them onto this page.

Hello Year 2, and welcome to another day. First of all, an apology, I'm having a few technical problems with the next chapters of our Florence Nightingale book but I do promise to upload them as soon as I can. This week, I'd like to introduce you to two new online learning resources. The first one is the Oak National Academy which has been produced by the government. It teaches Maths, English and some other subjects. I'll be asking you to use this mainly for the work in English but you are obviously free to use the other resources there too. I'll still add some ideas of my own and I'll still give you suggestions for things that you can send me for this page. This is the link to the online academy.

Oak National Academy Year 2

For maths, I'll be asking you to use White Rose Home Learning. I was really pleased to see that the first two weeks focus on the fraction work that we need to do - and which follows on from the week before the holidays. This will really help you with your fractions skills.

White Rose Online Learning

Please keep sending me your acrostic poems, NHS rainbows and pictures of the activities that you are doing at home and I'll put them onto this page for everyone to see.

I'm missing you all very much.

Hello again Year 2,

I hope that you all had a nice holiday week and managed to find some fun things to do. I've managed to set up my new laptop but it's having a few problems with some of my documents so I may not be able to upload the literacy work tomorrow as planned. (I will try my best to do it.) As you can see, I've added to our slideshows and there's a new one too with some of the activities that you have been doing. Please do send me pictures of the activities that you've been doing so that I can add to our gallery.

Sorry for the late text, my laptop really does have a mind of its own! (I have a new one which I need to set up so I'll  use the Easter break to get it ready.)

As you can see, I've added to our NHS gallery at the top of the page and there's a colourful new acrostic poem too!

Here's the maths for this week - it's all about finding thirds. There are two short video clips to help you and I'm hoping that you remember the work that we did last term too. As next week is a holiday, the next work will appear during the week beginning 20th April.

Hello Year 2. I'm sorry for the late post today but I had an equipment failure (lost documents)! This means that the maths won't be on this page until tomorrow. I have managed, however, to access your emails and to display more of your lovely work here. Can you spot the new pictures?

You'll see that there is a new slideshow. This is for anything that you would like to add that is related to Easter. At the moment, you can see my attempt at an Easter garden and a fantastic story cube which tells the Easter Story. You may have some ideas of your own?

I've also displayed the first of your acrostic poems. I'll add more as I receive them.

That's all for today (Pepsi is squeaking for lettuce!)

Today, I'd like to draw your attention to Oxford Owl, a free online source of quality reading books.

Follow this link: Oxford Owl

Once you have registered, you'll be able to search for suitable books - you can even do this by book band. You'll notice that it's the same as we use in school up to the white band but don't let that put you off reading some more challenging books. You can also enjoy books that are less challenging than your usual ones  too - all reading is good.

I'll be putting some more reading/literacy work onto this page next week (7th April) when I publish the answers to the Robot and Bluebird booklet. I'll then put another similar task onto the page.

I'm currently preparing resources for your next maths topic which will appear on this page tomorrow.

Welcome to another week of home learning. I've been really excited to see the first of your artwork which has been emailed to me at the Year 2 address. I've started the slide show and will add more artwork as it arrives. Here are the details again:

ART PROJECT!

In addition to your maths, history and literacy learning, it would be nice if you could produce and share some artwork. You can use any materials that you want to to make a picture or model connected to either the Robot and Bluebird book or our bird feeders (you could even make a model of a bird's nest!) - the choice is yours. Once you have finished your artwork, take a picture (or pictures) and email it/them to me at Y2@stteresa.bham.sch.uk and I will share it/them in a gallery on this website. I'll not include any names but you'll know if it is yours and you'll be able to see everyone else's.There's no time limit and I'll add your work as I receive it. Have fun!

I'll still be giving you the answers to the Robot and Bluebird reading comprehension on 7th April and will be publishing a new maths topic and resources on Wednesday 1st April.

I hope that you are all keeping safe.

Mrs Byrne

Dear Year 2, I hope that you are all enjoying using your home learning packs. Please phone the school if you were not there to get yours .I'll be regularly updating this page with new learning activities so please keep checking back. These first two activities cover work that we would have been doing in school in the run up to Easter. I hope that you are all keeping safe and well. Mrs Byrne

25.03.20

Hello again Year 2! We now have our own class email address which you can use to ask me any questions about your work. I'll be replying to your messages during normal school hours. As I'm not in school, this will be the only way in which you can contact me at the moment.

The address is: Y2@stteresa.bham.sch.uk

26.03.20

Hi Year 2! In addition to the maths work in your pack (which doesn't have to be done straight away) I'm going to add work for a weekly maths topic. You will need to decide which sets of questions it is better for you to answer. You could just have a go at the ones that you find easiest and then work your way through them like that. All of these topics relate to the Year 2 Standards that you have been working towards all year and there shouldn't be anything new. (I'll let you know if there is.) Please don't worry if you can't answer all of the questions - some of them are quite challenging. If you have any questions then you can, of course, email me on the class email address. Where I can, I've included answers so that you can check your own work. I hope that your and your families are all keeping well. This week's topic is Number Bonds. More topics will be added each week.Look out for work in other topics too. This week you have the Robot and Bluebird and work on Birmingham's History.

Year 2 worked very hard on their projects about he British Isles. Not only have they learnt a lot about them, they have also made two great displays!

Year 2 have thought about how we should spend Advent preparing ourselves for Christmas. We wrote prayers about how we are going to try to remember to do our best, to say sorry when we need to and to help others.
