Year 2 2019 - 2020

Well Year 2, What a year it has been. A huge thank you to all of you who have contributed to this class page or carried on working hard at home. I'm very proud of you all. I'm sad that we didn't get to say a proper goodbye but at least we can still see each other when we are in our new classes. A big thank you for the lovely emails that I'm receiving too.

As you can see, I've started a new slideshow (just below here) for the work and pictures that are still arriving. I've put them all into one place so that they are easier to find. I've also moved the Nemo slideshow as some work has been added to that too.

Have a fantastic summer holiday. I still be checking this email (at least once a week) so send you can keep sending any pictures and unfinished work and they will go into the slideshow. I'd really like to see any pictures of your seeds if they start to grow.

Have fun and don't forget to give me a wave in September!

Mrs Byrne

Hi Year 2,

I hope that you all had a lovely weekend. I really enjoyed the sun and I hope that you did too.

Here is your maths work for this week. Please keep sending your work to me - I'll still be putting it onto this page.

Have a great day.

Hello Year 2,

I hope that you are enjoying this week's activities.

I'm excited to share a new slideshow with you - well done to those of you who have sent me some of your Nemo work. (Two of the pictures are from children in one of our Essential Worker groups.)

You'll also see that a new superhero has arrived! Welcome to 'Incredible Builder'!

That's all for today. Please keep those emails coming!

Hi Year 2,

I hope that you enjoyed last week's work and that you have your learning heads on!

This week's maths continues with the topic of Measure and includes Time. I remember that many of you are quite good at telling the time so, hopefully, you'll soon be impressing everyone at home with your knowledge. As usual, the I've downloaded the videos for you to make them a little easier to watch. You can also access them by clicking here.

Literacy is a topic based unit on Finding Nemo! I know that lots of you have seen the film but don't worry if you haven't as there's a link to a shortened version of it on the PowerPoint which will still tell you all of the important parts of the story. The link is also here. If you can watch it again on DVD or a streaming channel like Netflix then that would be great too. You can also read the story on the PowerPoint. There's a PowerPoint which you will need to follow as it will tell you when you need to use the resources. I've also added some more colouring and a word search. As this is quite a big unit, you have two weeks to complete it. It should also give you time to send any unfinished work to me from previous weeks that you would like adding to this page.

I hope that you have a lovely week and that the sun shines.

Keep busy and keep safe.

A quick update regarding the videos on this page. As some of you are using Macbooks rather than Windows computers, you may have difficulty opening the videos. To help to overcome this, you can either visit the website (for the Maths) by clicking here or try the converted videos in the file list below.

Please let me know if your are having any access problems and I will do my best to sort them out.

Hi Year 2,

This week sees the start of July and I'm glad that we've had some July like weather. I hope that you are all enjoying it.

This week we'll be continuing with our rainforest theme. There's a PowerPoint which will help you to know what to do. It'll tell you when to watch the videos and even when to play a game! Remember that you can still send me your work from last week too.

Maths this week continues with the White Rose scheme. You'll be learning about volume and capacity. I've downloaded the videos again for you to make them easier to access.

Remember that you can email me at Y2@stteresa.bham.sch.uk if you would like to ask anything.

Mrs Byrne

15.06.20 (again)

Hi all,

A quick update. I was very excited this morning to receive a new picture for our Antarctica slideshow. It's a penguin, and you all know how much I love those!

Also, as I looked at the news earlier today, I saw a video about a 14 year old boy who says that knowing lots and lots about birds is his superpower. I've added the video with our literacy work. Please do watch it as it might give you some ideas for your work.

Have a great day and I hope that you are finding some time to be outside in the lovely weather that we are having today (so far).

Mrs Byrne

15.06.20

Hi Year 2,

Welcome to another week. First of all, I'd like you to have a look at our slideshow of the wonderful activities that you've been doing. Can you spot the new things that have been added? I think that you'll be impressed by the amazing drawing of a dinosaur that's there.

If you look just above here, you'll also see a presentation with some reports on water pollution that I've been sent. Don't forget that you can still send yours.

Geography

This week, we'll be using BBC Bitesize to help us to remember what we learnt about the countries that make up the British Isles. There are video clips, and online activities which will also remind you about the seasons and tell you about some of the other countries in the world and their flags. I hope that you enjoy it. Click on here to go to the site.

Maths
This week's maths is from Week 8 of the White Rose scheme of lessons. To make it easier to access though, I've downloaded the videos for you so that they are together with the worksheets that you will need on that day. If you would prefer to access the videos yourself then they are here. This week is all about 2D and 3D shapes

Thank you very much to those of you who have sent me work in to add to this page - very well done.

You'll also see that I've started a new gallery. The photos were sent in by a member of the class but they are also a clue towards next week's literacy - Can you guess what it will be about?

Also, to help you to access the maths videos on division for this week, I've put links to them here. I've also added one on using arrays to divide which we used in class.

I hope that you are all well and enjoying this lovely weather? As  you can see from our galleries, there are some great activities happening. I'm really impressed by the gardening and baking skills that my class have! I've been able to add to the Antarctica slide show too. Well done Year 2!

I'm uploading some Literacy, Science and RE work today.

Literacy

This week, I'd like you to try some descriptive writing (and a picture too). Please use this presentation to help you. (It's in PDF format so you should be able to access it.) The presentation will explain when you need to watch the video. It's all about using your imagination - so have fun! RE

If we had been in school then we would have been learning about Pentecost, the birthday of the church.

So that you can find out more about this, I've found a PowerPoint and sequencing activity for you. Remember to cut up the sequencing activity and then ask an adult to mix it up before you try to put it back in the right order. I hope that you enjoy it.

Science

Finally for today, here is the Science. As you know, plants make seeds. These seeds then need to travel away from their parent plant so that they can grow into a plant somewhere else. This is called seed dispersal. This work asks you how you think about how different plants disperse (send out) their seeds. The answers are at the bottom of each page. There are also two practical activities. The first one only needs paper and scissors so you should be able to do it. The second one needs a few more things - don't worry if you don't have them, it's okay to use different materials and your own ideas.

This term's Science was going to be all about plants and how to care for them and we were going to grow sunflowers. I know that some of you have already been gardening and growing things so it would be great to see some more pictures please? I'll be adding some activities here all about plants. The first one is a colouring, cutting and sticking activity about the life cycle of a flowering plant. I hope that you enjoy it. If you send me your completed work then I'll add it to this page. 12.05.20: Hello Year 2, as promised, here is the literacy based work for this week.

Continuing with our theme of Stewardship, our new book is about Antarctica, one of the last places on Earth which hasn’t been spoilt by human beings. Please read the book (and talk about it) with an adult. You can then click here to access lots more information about the topics in the book. Please spend some time using the websites, watching the videos and having fun using the interactive activities. (I really enjoyed dressing an Antarctic scientist.) When you have seen all of the websites then you should choose the part that you are most interested in and create a poster or PowerPoint about it. You can then email them to me and I will put them onto our website so that the can be shared with everyone. Please could you send either a photograph of your work or a PowerPoint so that I can share it on your class page?

I hope that you enjoy this work as much as I've enjoyed it! I!)'ll be adding some ideas for science tomorrow (have your glue and scissors ready).

Hi Year 2,

It's another sunny day and I hope that you are all getting the chance to enjoy it? Thank you for the emails that you keep sending me, I really enjoy seeing the lovely activities that you have been doing.

Fractions activity!

As promised, here is a new project idea. This one aims to be fun! As you know, we will soon have spent 3 weeks working on fractions finding halves, quarters and thirds. It would be lovely if you could think of a way to show your understanding. It could be a pizza cut into quarters, a cake cut into thirds or just some pieces of toast cut up into different fractions! You could add to your picture with some labels showing the fractions. I know that you will have much better ideas than I have!

Hello Year 2, and welcome to another day. First of all, an apology, I'm having a few technical problems with the next chapters of our Florence Nightingale book but I do promise to upload them as soon as I can. This week, I'd like to introduce you to two new online learning resources. The first one is the Oak National Academy which has been produced by the government. It teaches Maths, English and some other subjects. I'll be asking you to use this mainly for the work in English but you are obviously free to use the other resources there too. I'll still add some ideas of my own and I'll still give you suggestions for things that you can send me for this page. This is the link to the online academy.

You can also enjoy books that are less challenging than your usual ones  too - all reading is good.

I'll be putting some more reading/literacy work onto this page next week (7th April) when I publish the answers to the Robot and Bluebird booklet. I'll then put another similar task onto the page.

You can use any materials that you want to to make a picture or model connected to either the Robot and Bluebird book or our bird feeders (you could even make a model of a bird's nest!) - the choice is yours. Once you have finished your artwork, take a picture (or pictures) and email it/them to me at Y2@stteresa.bham.sch.uk and I will share it/them in a gallery on this website. I'll not include any names but you'll know if it is yours and you'll be able to see everyone else's.There's no time limit and I'll add your work as I receive it. Have fun!

I'll still be giving you the answers to the Robot and Bluebird reading comprehension on 7th April and will be publishing a new maths topic and resources on Wednesday 1st April.

I hope that you are all keeping safe.

Dear Year 2, I hope that you are all enjoying using your home learning packs. Please phone the school if you were not there to get yours .I'll be regularly updating this page with new learning activities so please keep checking back. These first two activities cover work that we would have been doing in school in the run up to Easter. I hope that you are all keeping safe and well. Mrs Byrne

Hello again Year 2! We now have our own class email address which you can use to ask me any questions about your work. I'll be replying to your messages during normal school hours. As I'm not in school, this will be the only way in which you can contact me at the moment.

The address is: Y2@stteresa.bham.sch.uk

Hi Year 2! In addition to the maths work in your pack (which doesn't have to be done straight away) I'm going to add work for a weekly maths topic. You will need to decide which sets of questions it is better for you to answer. You could just have a go at the ones that you find easiest and then work your way through them like that. All of these topics relate to the Year 2 Standards that you have been working towards all year and there shouldn't be anything new. (I'll let you know if there is.) Please don't worry if you can't answer all of the questions - some of them are quite challenging. If you have any questions then you can, of course, email me on the class email address. Where I can, I've included answers so that you can check your own work. I hope that your and your families are all keeping well. This week's topic is Number Bonds. More topics will be added each week.Look out for work in other topics too. This week you have the Robot and Bluebird and work on Birmingham's History.

Year 2 worked very hard on their projects about he British Isles. Not only have they learnt a lot about them, they have also made two great displays!

Year 2 have thought about how we should spend Advent preparing ourselves for Christmas. We wrote prayers about how we are going to try to remember to do our best, to say sorry when we need to and to help others.
