VOLCANOES HOMEWORK PROJECTS
SUMMER 2 SPELLINGS
VISIT TO THE SYNAGOGUE
We started our visit by looking at the outside of the building where we met by our guide Estelle. We went into what is called the Children's synagogue. Our first activity was to draw a Star of David. We then looked at the images of Jewish festivals on windows and we focussed on the 10 Commandments. We also saw special symbols of the faith such as the Menorah candle and the torah. Estelle talked about Sabbath as a reminder of God resting after creating the world and showed us mezuzahs which are on all doors in Jewish buildings as they contain a special prayer. We also saw that the Prayer books are in English & Hebrew. We then moved into the main entrance hall where we saw marble slabs depicting families who donated to the building of the synagogue. A very special moment was Dasis dressed up in a kippah & tefflin, these are items Jewish men wear to pray in the synagogue. Estelle pointed that out that there are 12 columns for the 12 tribes of Israel. We all loved the beautiful rose window which has colours of blue & red as they are known as royal colours to show the importance of God. Estelle talked about how Torah scroll is used with a yad how they can't be touched. It was a fascinating visit and we asked some very thoughtful questions. Estelle complimented us on our deep knowledge of the Jewish faith and our excellent behaviour.

FROTTAGE ART
We created our own pieces of frottage art. Frottage is the technique of taking a rubbing from textured surfaces to form the basis of a work of art. The term frottage was created by the artist Max Ernst.
RECONCILIATION RETREAT ST JOHN WALL
Today we went to St John Wall for our Reconciliation retreat. Mr. Lysaght started our retreat by asking what superpower we would like to have and why. There were some really good ideas. We then went through the 5 stages of Reconciliation, including thinking about different situations being sins or mistakes. Mr. Lysaght was impressed with our responses and we even made him change his thinking. We all agreed to stop pushing in the line at dinnertime. We then thought about times we had forgiven someone after that we got into our team groups to think about why it is important to say sorry and we wrote on hearts about how we feel in our hearts when we know we've done something wrong. We drew around our hands and thought of 5 reasons why it is important to forgive and we made a paperchain of what we could do as penance in our home or school lives. we also got to enjoy playtime on a playground just for ourselves.
SCIENCE: INVESTIGATING MIRRORS
Today we explored using mirrors as reflective surfaces. We tried to follow a wiggly line along the playground by following what we could see in the mirror! It was hard but fun!
SCIENCE: INVESTIGATING REFLECTIVE MATERIALS
In our new science topic we tested different materials to see which waa the most reflective.

100% ATTENDANCE!!!!
We were very proud to have been awarded the first 100% Attendance award. Our newly elected school councillors Dasis and Lily accepted the award on our behalf.
CHARCOAL ANIMALS
We used charcoal in the next stage of our prehistoric artwork. We scaled up our drawings and used smudging and outlining to develop our drawings. Take a look at our FABULOUS work!
PRAYER & LITURGY 2.10.24
Tara and Dasis led our Prayer and Liturgy focusing on St Teresa as it was her feast day on OCtober 1st. We were reminded of her life and how she was determined to give her life to Jesus. Tara and Dasis asked us to remember St Teresa in this sentence as we go forth "When we do all things with love, small actions are enough."
EDIBLE SOIL!
We learned about the 5 layers of soil by creating edible layers using cookies, chocolate pudding and of course worms! YUMMY & MESSY!
BAPTISM ROLE PLAYS
We sequenced the Rite of Baptism through role plays. We knew that the baby has water poured on their heads to wash away their sins and that they are given a candle as reminder of Jesus being the light of the world. We looked very smart in our special outfits.
TESTING ROCKS
We used our working scientifically skills to plan an investigation and evaluate our results. We tested different rocks for their permeability, whether they let water through or not. Check us out carrying out a fair test enquiry.
PRAYER & LITURGY 18.9.24
We had a very thoughtful Prayer and Liturgy today, led by Ava and Deborah. We listened to the scriptura of Matthew the tax collector being called by Jesus and we responded by thinking of how we would feel if we were called by Jesus to leave everything to follow him
